Confusing bonus for player slots

I don't understand why there's any kind of bonus associated with sorting players correctly by value (e.g., WR1 > WR2), and using it as a tiebreaker between otherwise identical teams in PvP feels bad. Especially when one of those positions has an era constraint and another doesn't, so the optimal play is always to put a player in a constraint they fit and leave the unconstrained spot open. It feels like dumb luck whether you get a better or worse player after that.

It’s skill and gambling. Knowing which eras have good players, gambling that you’ll get someone better than Tim Brown but worse than Randy Moss, etc. Positional weighting is what prevents ties every single time.
